Great services, friendly staff!

Brought my mother in laws car in for service (it hadn’t been in for 3 years, but only accumulated 5000ish miles). Byron and his guys checked it out and all it needed was tires, an oil change and an air filter. So glad they didn’t try to sell me a bunch of unnecessary maintenance items. Money is tight and it’s great to have a solid auto service place like Johns! I’ve been coming here for about 15 years!

First of all, I don't normally write yelp reviews- this one is well deserved and long overdue! If I could give 10 STARS, I would. The team at John's is welcoming, friendly, caring, and extremely professional. They always go above and beyond to make sure I'm happy and my car is running and reliable. About a year ago, I randomly stumbled upon these guys because I needed a new battery for my car. Well, not only did I need a new battery for my 14-year-old car, it also needed some other pretty important work to be done. Skeptical that they were like most auto shops out there looking for anything they could fix and to charge me out the wazoo for it, I sought counsel from my dad. Dad was blown away by the amazing prices and assured me the work they proposed for my car was indeed necessary and important (not frivolous). I approved the work and instead of making me sit in the waiting room the whole day they offered for their shuttle to take me wherever I wanted (close-by) and gave me advice on where to go. I ended up going on 2 different hikes and had Mexican food for lunch. Why is this important? Well, I had just stepped off the plane after moving my entire life from Hawaii to San Diego. I knew no one and my temporary home was 30 miles away. It was overwhelming and the guys at John's made what could have been the worst first day in San Diego into an incredible one I will never forget. Usually auto shops give me bad, salesy vibes. This shop is different on every level and because my car is old and has had problems over the past year the guys at the shop have become some of my best friends in San Diego. I trust them 150% to give me solid advice and care. They take the time to explain the work to me; I enjoy getting a full understanding of how things work so that I can be well informed of where I am putting my money. They make cars easy and simple to understand. It is also nice because I know the work they are saying they are going to do they are actually doing...they show me! A little over a year later, I have stayed true to John's Automotive Care. I live in North County and the connection that I made with them on that first visit and everyone after solidified that I found the BEST CAR SHOP IN SAN DIEGO. Although the drive getting to them is not my favorite thing to do, I will gladly do it because I know they care and are GREAT MECHANICS. I had one issue where they recommended for me not to drive my car down to them because it was unsafe. They even searched shops nearby my house to help me know where I could take it to within their network so that the work would be under their warranty. That shop ended up being like the shops I have come to expect...trying to find every little thing they can do on my car so they can take my money! I will never take my car anywhere else and most recently I even paid for a tow truck (and waited 3+ hours for it to arrive) to take my car down to their shop. That's some hardcore loyalty. These guys are amazing. John, I hope you realize what a great team you have. From mechanics who have stayed late to make sure my car would be finished by the end of the day so I could drive to my new home in my own car, to your manager, Brian, who constantly exceeds my expectations especially most recently when my head gasket blew and I was prepared to cut my losses (but didn't have to!), to your front of office guys- they are like family to me and are always a pleasure to see and work with, to your back of office lady who has been super helpful when I couldn't connect to wifi. She went above and beyond to make it work for me. Not sure how you find all these great people! Cherish them, treat them well, and keep up the excellent service standards. Took my truck in due to a coolant leak. They did a full inspection of my truck and sent me pictures of what they found. There were problems they mentioned and made suggestions as to whether or not I should worry about them. They didn't push any additional repairs on me, got the job done quick, and did it for a fair price. Great guys, friendly and helpful. Update: I not only love this team for the work they do, I also love them for the work they don't do. When you take your car in for service, thinking it needs a full brake service, and they realize that the squeaking sound is from a foreign object in the brake disc, they fix the simple problem and send me on my way. Thats great service in my book! Everyone here is wonderful and very responsive when you need them. Dave Carr took great care of me this time, but these guys are all honest, reliable, and friendly. These guys truly focus on the customer, in concept and practice. They provide everything you need while you are waiting on your car, phone chargers, coffee, beverages, snacks. This team goes to great lengths to make sure you are all taken care of. Prior to delivery of your finished car, you get an emailed overview of the inspection report, and then Justin walked me to my car when I got back to the shop. They went above and beyond, and even helped me with something else on my car that was unrelated to the service I got. I will definitely be coming back to this place, they are a real hidden gem in the San Diego community! always great service

It's such a pleasure and relief to find an automobile service company that you can trust and feel good about. This is such a company. Thank you so much! I understand many of the local Kaiser employees come here and it's easy to see why. Recently I left my phone at the service counter. Justin literally ran half a block up to my car where I was waiting at a red light to make sure that I got it back. Another time I had my car serviced and (yet again) apologized for how dirty it was. Justin surprised me by returning my car in a rare clean state. Really great service and highly recommended. Justin happened to be my service agent these last two times, but every exchange that I've had with staff has been excellent. Friendly and very professional. The back up there work and even fixed a few little things at no charge. I recommend them 100%. Tell them Wendy Grudzien sent ya and i get a free oil change.
