I am not from San Diego and I ran into what I knew was a serious engine issue while driving my car. I took my car to a small mechanic shop, because I like to support small businesses. However, the mechanic assumed I could not diagnose the basics of cars and basically gave me the "run around" about what I knew what was wrong with the car. After name dropping expensive engine repairs and parts, the other mechanic (NOT John's) told me it would cost me 1100 dollars for him to open my engine and tell me what was exactly wrong with my car. So, I paid the other mechanic (Not John's) to diagnose my engine, and he didn't tell me what was wrong with it! Knowing that this was of course sketchy and the other mechanic was trying to milk cash out of me, I took my car to John's Automotive for a second opinion. They were extremely nice and professional throughout my whole experience. They even gave me a ride home; unlike the other mechanic. Mike was the guy looking over my car. After a 40 minute glance at my car, without dismantling my engine, Mike not only informed me of what was seriously wrong with my engine; he informed of the best method of fixing my car. Which was more BAD news, sadly. What was great about this shop was I asked Mike if he could simply fix the broken part, and he STRAIGHT UP told me that he would not recommend it, because it was a high possibility that there could be more damage and he would have to charge to fix it. Basically, he did not want to add charges to fixing my part. Honesty is big in this profession, and these mechanics told me exactly what was wrong with my car, without trying to gouge me and place me in a cash hole or force me to continue paying them for repairs. I will be coming back to John's Automotive Care for car repairs in the future.
